The Returns Bin: A Small Shift That Saves Big Stress
Why Every Home Needs a Returns Bin
Returns don’t belong in your car trunk…or your purse…or that chair in the corner of your bedroom.
They deserve a system…and that system is a Returns Bin.
This isn’t a Pinterest-perfect organizing project. It’s a practical, high-impact shift we build into every Haus & Order setup, and it's one of the first things we recommend in EDB Family Management homes.
“A good system doesn’t rely on memory, it just works.”
— Haus & Order
How to Set It Up (in under 5 minutes):
1. Choose a bin, basket, or tote
Preferably something neutral that matches your home aesthetic. Canvas, woven, or clear are all great options.
2. Label it
We use an embossed label that simply says: Returns
3. Choose a location
Drop zone by the front door, mudroom shelf, hall closet, or primary bedroom closet: all great options depending on your home’s layout.
4. Add a zip pouch or small envelope for receipts & labels
This keeps everything tidy and together until you're ready to head to the post office or store.
Make It a Habit:
Drop every return into the bin immediately.
Set a recurring calendar reminder (Fridays or Sundays work well) to check the bin and plan a drop-off or shipment.
